- Bio: Stephen Hewitt is a junior journalism major, and minor in english, at UMass, where he has taken on most of the premier sports beats at the Collegian, including men’s basketball, football, men’s soccer and softball, in his tenure. His nights, and thus weeks, are very long, as in addition to being a Co-Sports Editor, he is a Night Editor on the staff, helping to keep the newspaper looking sharp before it’s sent to get printed. His career goals of course include sportswriting, and he’s looking for it in whatever kind of medium an opportunity presents itself. For now though, he’s happy to call the windowless wonderland that is the Collegian home. Send Stephen an email at shewitt@student.umass.edu.

In his time, he’s been on the men’s lacrosse and men’s basketball beats for the past two years, while also tackling the football beat this fall and men’s soccer the previous fall. He’s keeping an open mind as to what path he hopes to take in the field of sports journalism, but hopes to one day be a beat writer at a major news outlet and regularly appear on sports radio talk shows. - Bio: Nick Canelas is a sophomore journalism major and history minor at UMass, who considers the Collegian the greatest part about being in school. Visiting the Collegian was one of the first things he did when he first moved on campus as a freshman, and it was love at first sight. Nick has been on the hockey beat each of the last two years, and has also spent time on the softball and men’s soccer beats. He hopes to continue to climb the Collegian latter, and has made it a personal goal of his to be Sports Editor by next fall. Having covered sports at the high school, college, and professional level, he is hoping the window of opportunity is open for him in sportswriting when his collegiate career is done. His ultimate goal is to be a beat writer for a professional sports team, and to be the savior of the daily newspaper. Nick be reached at ncanelas@student.umass.edu.

- Bio: Daniel Malone is a senior journalism and history major at UMass who has returned to the university after an extended absence to pursue a life in sports writing. As such, he is considerably older than many of his Collegian cohorts, but he doesn’t believe they hold that against him. Daniel’s sporting interests mostly concern football and baseball, but he’ll invest himself in just about any athletic endeavor. His career goals are varied, and, with a lot of luck, might hopefully be capped with the authorship of books, sports-related or otherwise. Daniel can be reached at dmalone@student.umass.edu.
