The Massachusetts football team kicks off its season in just two weeks at Wisconsin, and now knows the challenge it has ahead.

The AP released its preseason Top 25 poll on Saturday, and the Badgers were ranked No. 23 in the nation. It’s the only ranked opponent UMass has on its slate as of right now.

Minutemen opponents Kansas State (Sept. 14), Vanderbilt (Sept. 21) and Northern Illinois (Nov. 2) all received votes as well.

Wisconsin will be UMass’ first ranked opponent since then No. 17 Michigan on Sept. 15 last season. The Wolverines soundly won that game, 63-13.
